Vitamin E exists in eight natural isomer forms: four tocopherols and four tocotrienols. Tocopherol is the common, well-studied form found in most skincare. Tocotrienol is far less commonly used but structurally distinct.

Tocopherol
Has a saturated side chain. It's a stable, well-established lipid-phase antioxidant that protects cell membranes from oxidative damage.
Tocotrienol
Has an unsaturated side chain, which changes its physical behavior. It distributes more efficiently within the skin's lipid layers and has shown, in some studies, stronger antioxidant potency per molecule than tocopherol, particularly against lipid peroxidation.
Using both isomer types together provides broader antioxidant coverage across different lipid environments in the skin than either form alone. It's genuinely closer to how Vitamin E exists in nature, as a mixture of isomers rather than a single form, similar in logic to the ceramide NP/AP/EOP combination.
