What it is

Tretinoin (all-trans retinoic acid) is the direct, biologically active form of Vitamin A. Unlike retinol or retinaldehyde, which require multi-step enzymatic conversion in skin before becoming active, tretinoin binds directly to retinoic acid receptors immediately.

02

How it works

It normalizes keratinization (preventing dead skin cells from clumping and clogging pores), increases cell turnover, and has anti-inflammatory effects on the follicle. That combination is why it remains the most clinically validated topical acne treatment available.

03

Why microsphere technology matters here

Tretinoin's biggest real-world limitation isn't efficacy, it's tolerability. Direct-application tretinoin commonly causes irritation, peeling, and a concentration spike on first contact with skin. Microsphere encapsulation releases the tretinoin gradually rather than all at once, which is a genuine, mechanistically sound solution to that specific, well-documented problem, not a marketing workaround.

04

Concentration context

USP 0.025% is a standard, conservative starting concentration (tretinoin ranges from 0.025% to 0.1% in prescription formulations), appropriate for a gold-standard, well-tolerated positioning rather than an aggressive one.
